Routine screening service

The Hospitals
The Antenatal Screening Service provides screening on a routine basis to a number of NHS hospital trusts in the UK. The screening service process approximately 50,000 samples annually, making it one of the largest antenatal screening centres in the UK. The service

The tests
The Antenatal Screening Service offer the Integrated test, first trimester Combined test and second trimester Quadruple test.

Transport of samples
We will arrange for the transport of samples from hospital trusts to the laboratory in London if required.

Results
Results are generally processed the day that the sample arrives at the laboratory. Therefore, results are usually available within 48 hours of the blood sample being taken. Screen-positive results are immediately telephoned and faxed to the antenatal screening co-ordinator in the antenatal clinic. Screen-negative results are posted to the antenatal clinic.

Helpline
The antenatal screening service has a dedicated helpline to offer information and support to patients and health professionals.

Education and training
We will provide regular training sessions (free of charge) at hospitals using the Antenatal Screening Service for their routine screening.

Cost
The fee for providing routine screening will vary depending on the test(s) required and the number of samples processed. To discuss the routine screening service further, please contact us.

Private screening service

For women whose hospital does not offer their test of choice, the Antenatal Screening Service offer the screening tests on a private basis.

The service

The tests
The Antenatal Screening Service offer the Integrated test, the Serum Integrated test, first trimester Combined test and second trimester Quadruple test on a private basis. The ultrasound scans for the Integrated and Combined tests are performed at the London Ultrasound Centre, as are the blood samples for these tests. The blood samples for the Serum Integrated and Quadruple tests are performed at the Wolfson Institute or by an individuals local GP or midwife. The analysis and interpretation for all tests are performed by the Antenatal Screening Service at the Wolfson Institute.

Cost
The Integrated test – from £225
Performed at the London Ultrasound Centre. Please contact the London Ultrasound Centre for further information on appointments and cost.

The Combined test – from £192
Performed at the London Ultrasound Centre. Please contact the London Ultrasound Centre for further information on appointments and cost.

The Serum Integrated test - £120
Performed at the Wolfson Institute or by your local GP or midwife. Please contact the Antenatal Screening Service for further information and appointments.

The Quadruple test - £90
Performed at the Wolfson Institute or by your local GP or midwife. Please contact the Antenatal Screening Service for further information and appointments.

Transport of samples
For women having the Serum Integrated or Quadruple test samples performed by their local GP or midwife, the Antenatal Screening Service can provide a sample kit which contains the necessary equipment for taking and transporting the sample. The sample should be returned in the envelope provided using the Royal Mail Special Delivery service.

Results
The results are usually available the day after the blood sample is taken. Women are able to telephone the Antenatal Screening Service for their results and a copy will be posted to the individuals GP or antenatal clinic.

Arranging a test
There is no need for a GP or hospital referral. To arrange an Integrated or Combined test individuals should contact The London Ultrasound Centre on 020 7935 4450. To arrange a Serum Integrated or Quadruple test individuals should contact the Antenatal Screening Service on 020 7882 6293.
